Abstract: Advances in Bioenergy Crops and Biomass Products Currently corn in the United States and sugar cane in Brazil are the dominant biofuel crops for bioethanol. A number of advanced breeding and biotechnology strategies have the potential to significantly improve the efficiency of these existing biofuel crops and future energy crops.

Paul Oeller is a Senior Project Leader at Syngenta Biotechnology Inc. in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina leading efforts to increase yield in sugar cane. Paul has a diverse background in a range of disciplines including molecular biology, biochemistry, genomics and mass spectrometry-based proteomics and metabolomics. Together with extensive management experience this enables him to oversee both internal research activities and collaborations with outside organizations in this endeavor.
