What positions have you previously held leading up to your current role?
  • 1979-80: farm worker/exchange student in New Zealand
  • 1981 to 2002: Reporting positions with Brandon Sun, Winnipeg Free Press
  • Calgary Herald, Western Producer, Manitoba Co-operator
  • 2002 to 2007:  Part Owner and Associate Editor of Farmers Independent Weekly
  • 2007 to 2015: Editor, Manitoba Co-operator
  • 2015 to present: Editorial Director, Glacier FarmMedia


What initially sparked your interest in the life science industry?

As a reporter, I have followed developments of life sciences throughout my career. 


Which leader in life science do you most look up to? 

Norman Bourlaug and his team.


What advice do you have for anyone pursuing a career in life science? 

Keep your mind open to new possibilities. The science we "know" today may be obsolete tomorrow.


What do you do in your spare time? 

I ride horses, enjoy my family, garden, fish, camp, cross-country ski.

What's your favourite Canadian dish? 

Pea soup.

What do you most value in your friends? 


Which superpower would you most like to have?

The ability to slow the passage of time.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Raising a child, stepping out of the way as she became who she was meant to be, and finding her as my friend.

Which living person do you most admire?

My parents who just celebrated 65 years of life together and who have changed the world through kindness and commitment. 


Who are your heroes in real life? 

My parents.
