Biography

Dr. Iwona Rudkowska is an Assistant professor in the Department of Kinesiology at Université Laval and a researcher at the Endocrinology and Nephrology Unit of CHU de Québec Research Center. Her unique training as dietitian and researcher, have led her to become respected young scientist in nutrigenomics and metabolic diseases. Her previous work demonstrated that there is considerable inter-individual variability in response to several nutrition interventions. It is therefore essential to understand the genetic architecture of the disease in order to be able to predict the response of an individual to a nutritional therapy. Using the profiles generated by experimental methods such as genetics, transcriptomics and metabolomics, the primary goal of her research is to identify molecular markers of an individual at risk for developing diabetes. This knowledge will allow the development of nutritional interventions adapted to each individual and thus more effective in the prevention and the management of diabetes.
