Biography

Paula Capodistrias is Head Research Advisor in the Norwegian start up Foodlist, a technological solution that links supermarkets with local charities, in order to reduce food waste and contribute to food security.

Foodlist is an official partner of SAVE FOOD, FAO’s Global Initiative on Food Loss and Waste Reduction, and was among the finalist of the REFRESH competition - an EU research project taking action against food waste for the entire supply chain.

Originally from Argentina, Paula holds a Bachelor in International Environment and Development and a Master degree in Agroecology, both from the University of Life Sciences in Norway.

Her passion for food waste reduction started as a volunteer of the “Future café” a food rescue project run by students of the University of Life Sciences in Ås, Norway. She has special interest in social entrepreneurship and innovation, and has collaborated with several businesses working with food prevention and reduction.

Her research on food waste has been focused primarily on food waste at supermarket level, including her Master thesis on Direct surplus food redistribution, her participation in The Nordic Council’s Food redistribution and food banks project, and her recent report on Norwegian Supermarkets and Food Waste: Prevention and Redistribution Strategies, published by Norway’s biggest environmental organization. She has also collaborated with the European Commission’s project FUSIONS (Food Use for Social Innovation by Optimising Waste Prevention Strategies), the Norwegian research Institute Øsfoldforsking and ForMat, a collaborative project covering the entire value chain for the food and beverage sector in Norway.

She has also collaborated with Oslo’s Food bank, and Matvett, Norway’s official agency for food waste prevention and reduction, and facilitated several workshops on Food system sustainability. Paula also worked in the restaurant industry for over 10 years.
