John McMurdy is currently the Director for Emerging Markets and Development Partnerships at CropLife International where he supports CLI supported programming across Africa and Asia. Previously, Dr. McMurdy served as senior international research and biotechnology advisor in the Bureau for Food Security at USAID where he managed agency investments in plant biotechnology R&D and biotechnology regulatory policy capacity development. He also previously managed USAID investments in African maize improvement as well as the start-up of eight assorted seed production grants in partnership with the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). Prior to coming to USAID as a AAAS fellow, Dr. McMurdy served as the Chief Technology Officer at Corum Medical, a technology company he co-founded with physician and engineering colleagues in Providence, Rhode Island. He received his PhD in biomedical engineering from Brown University and his B.S./M.S. from the University of Rochester.
