This training program is for new entrepreneurs in the agricultural value-added processing sector focused on manufacturing ingredients for food, feed, and health markets.

Processing technology and Innovation: A special focus will be placed on utilizing novel processing methods and technology in devising a competitive advantage.

 

Why is this training needed? 

Aspiring entrepreneurs often have difficulty assessing the feasibility of their agricultural processing business idea and developing a winning business plan. Assessing the merits of an idea (and technology) is multi-faceted, involving many components at all stages of the development journey. This training will address many of these components, highlighting critical business topics:

 

Seminar format: 
The program will be delivered over one week (5-days / 40 hours) with additional input from course instructors after the course. Participants will be encouraged to work on their business plans during the course, and can obtain input from the seminar instructors after the course concludes. All examples used in training will focus on agricultural manufacturing.


Seminar topics: 

Day 1: Ideation fundamentals, assessing feasibility, and communicating your plan
Day 2: Creating a Strong Company
Day 3: Understanding Financial Statements – what do they tell you? (NOT an accounting class)
Day 4: Financial Statement Keys and Ratios, and Introduction to Business Modeling
Day 5: Develop an initial Business Plan with Impact!

 

Day 1: Ideation fundamentals, assessing feasibility, and communicating your plan
This session will help you clearly and concisely communicate your idea and value proposition, articulating its economic and market feasibility fundamentals.

Day 2: Creating a Strong Company
In this session you will complete an exercise to develop a Vision, and a Mission Statement, and understand how to begin building a team.

Day 3: Understanding Financial Statements – what do they tell you? (Not an accounting class) 
This session will cover:

Day 4: Financial Statement Keys and Ratios, and Introduction to Business Modeling
This session will teach you why basic ratios are important and how they tell you about your company’s financial health and the direction it is heading. You will complete a ratio analysis of Balance Sheet and Income and Expense Statements and explain what the results tell you about your company. You will be provided with a financial business modelling template and begin populating it with your own data.

Day 5: Develop an initial Business Plan with Impact!
This session will help you understand what makes an effective business plan, and how to author or guide the creation of your own plan. You will be provided with examples of effective business plans and PowerPoints in agricultural manufacturing that you can use for future guideline in creating your own plan.
